SYNOPSIS
English: Sarah, Gerda and Leonie only know each other from a chat room. What connects them is invisible – a shared decision that brings them together for the first time on a wintry village street. Without many words, the three young women set off into the dark forest. The snow muffles their footsteps, the trees closing in as if to hide their path. In a secluded hollow, they pitch a tent, huddle close, and share one last cigarette. Each carries a disposable barbecue in her backpack – ordinary objects that take on a fatal meaning in this night. The forest becomes a bubble outside the world, where time and sound seem to slow down. As they arrange their camp, brief, tentative conversations emerge – fragments from their lives, hints of what has led them here. There are quiet laughs over small things, fleeting moments of warmth in the cold. Yet beneath it all lies the knowledge of why they have come. As the fire is prepared, glances and silences condense into an unspoken question: will they take the final step? The night stretches on, the darkness thickens, and between smoke, clouds of breath and falling snow, reality and decision begin to blur. In this in-between moment, just before something irreversible, there is a fragile connection between these three strangers – who, for a few hours, are more to each other than just names on a screen.

Deutsch: Sarah, Gerda und Leonie kennen sich nur aus einem Chatroom. Was sie verbindet, ist unsichtbar – eine gemeinsame Entscheidung, die sie in einer winterlichen Dorfstraße zum ersten Mal zusammenführt. Ohne viel zu reden, brechen die drei jungen Frauen in den dunklen Wald auf. Der Schnee dämpft ihre Schritte, die Bäume rücken enger zusammen, als wollten sie den Weg verbergen. In einer abgelegenen Senke schlagen sie ein Zelt auf, hocken dicht beieinander, rauchen eine letzte Zigarette. Jede trägt einen Einweggrill im Rucksack – unscheinbare Gegenstände, die in dieser Nacht eine unheilvolle Bedeutung haben. Der Wald wird zur Blase außerhalb der Welt, in der Zeit und Geräusche verlangsamt scheinen. Während sie das Lager herrichten, entstehen kurze, zögerliche Gespräche – Fragmente aus ihren Leben, Andeutungen von dem, was sie hierhergeführt hat. Es gibt leise Lacher über Belanglosigkeiten, Momente von Wärme inmitten der Kälte. Doch unter allem liegt das Wissen, warum sie hier sind. Als das Feuer vorbereitet wird, verdichten sich Blicke und Stille zu einer unausgesprochenen Frage: Gehen sie den letzten Schritt? Die Nacht zieht sich, das Dunkel wird dichter, und zwischen Rauch, Atemwolken und fallendem Schnee verschwimmen Realität und Entschluss. In dieser Zwischenzeit, kurz vor einem unwiderruflichen Moment, offenbart sich etwas von der stillen Verbindung dieser drei Fremden, die für ein paar Stunden mehr füreinander sind als bloße Namen auf einem Bildschirm..

“Eat Snow” tells a story, inspired by true events, of three young women who meet in a chat room and agree to end their lives together. We asked ourselves what fears and thoughts the three women might confront before setting out on their final journey together. We deliberately came together as a small, close-knit team and spent a week in the countryside, where we immersed ourselves deeply in the narrative while at the same time striving to maintain an artistic and critical distance.
